"The last couple of weeks have seen casting on this big budget project progressing quite nicely, with most of the major roles now being filled, including Emile Hirsch as Speed Racer, "Lost" star Matthew Fox as Racer X and Christina Ricci as Speed's girlfriend, Trixie. It appears that Vince Vaughn, who at one time had been somewhat of a champion of the project may no longer be involved. When the word had gone out that this was going to be a G or PG rated Wachowski Brothers project, I was sort of wondering if that also meant the ages of the cast would be significantly lower than what they have gone with, and admittedly, it's sort of hard for me to gauge exactly how old Speed and Trixie are supposed to be based upon that really archaic anime style of the original series."
Release Date: May 9th, 2008. Originally scheduled for May 23rd, 2008, Warner Bros has bumped the release date up two weeks to May 9th to avoid direct competition with Indiana Jones 4.
MPAA Rating Notes: Although the Wachowski Brothers are famous for their R-rated 'Matrix' movies, the tone of this 'Speed Racer' movie will be family friendly, so a rating in the G or PG range is most likely.
Production Company: Silver Pictures
Special Effects Note: For this movie, the Wachowski Brothers will be reuniting with John Gaeta, the special effects guru responsible for many of the amazing visual tricks achieved in their three 'Matrix' movies.
Cast: Emile Hirsch (Speed Racer), Christina Ricci (Trixie), Matthew Fox (Racer X), John Goodman (Pops), Kick Gurry (Sparky), Susan Sarandon (Speed's Mother)
