Hope everyone enjoyed the room setup this year. I am hoping to do the same for next year as well with some new additions.
What I think went well
Neo-Print: got alot of use. Unfortunitly I could not find my Holloween cart for it. As luck would have it I did find it when I got home after the con. I am going to put it in now so it is ready for next year
Big Screen gaming and previews. All in all I went well. I realize people were wanting to play Halo 3 everyday/Night all day but I felt it needed to be mixed up a bit so everyone would have something to go to. I will say beatmania will be reduced to a tv next year. not to many people came out for it
also how were the Tokyo Game show Previews. I plan on doing this next year as well. Plus extra footage not available to the general attendees
Arcade gaming in general: I realize it was Fighter heavy but i tried to mix in a bit. My sponsor wants me to have shooters next year so I am going to do my best to get this setup for them.
Tournaments. SSBM did not go as well as I had hoped (lots of people) and the DDR I am afriad I was not as good at. However I do think overall the SNK-Capcom run Tournaments went very well. and the prizes were nice (did you like the grab bags of stuff I handed out)
Console gaming. Good mix and surprisingly no one asked for naurto. bleach blade battle got alot of play as well as the usall.
Pachi Slots: Everyone seemed to enjoy them although on the last day I had a token thief 8P I will bring them back next year as well and fix the coin jam issue on the samurai
H.A.A.G. these guys were great at bringing out some classics and pinball. hope everyone enjoyed them and will check out thier show in November (http://www.arcadecenter.com/) we are one of thier sponsors as well.
KOF MIRA location test. Even though the cab broke on Saturday night the event seemed to go well. we have some great pictures to send back to Japan. look for more location test in the future.
Bad.
Problems with people setting up thier own console/gaming area. As you can see the room was packed. I brought some tv's but most all were in use. I asked nicely several times to not setup a project screen however no matter how many times I asked this person was presistant and still would try to set it up. going so far as to stick signs on my wall (this is prohibited by GRB) and taking over a room across the way (which we did not pay for). Look if you really want to setup an event the best place it to get a hotel room or a suite. then you can do what you want in there. but don't force me consistantly ask about taking down something. I really do not want to do this but next year plan on not bringing this system and if it continues to be a problem I will just get security to handle it.
Other tournaments in the hall. I am ok for people promoting events but again we have paid sponsored tournaments. if you want to setup another tournament please do so in your room. The comment "the only SFIII3s tournament at Oni-Con" was rude and incorrect since we held the tournament on saturday. This was mentioned to me several times by our sponsors.
So any comments, gripes, complaints. What went well and what went bad. Please let me know and I will work on fixing for next year if I am able.
Big Bruno
Overall, i think the arcade was the best it's been this year.Lots of different games, plenty of space, much more organized, and more in tune with the fans.Fighters will always be a staple in arcades and there were plenty of different ones this time to please the hardcore gamers. The tournaments also went very well due to refined methods of the breakdown in brackets and issues like that as well as the staff making it as painless as possible.Regulation A breaking was unfortunate but at least it got a lot of play before that happened. The neo print was a very good idea and it helps people have one more memory from this con. Thanks for Mr.Big and all the snk-capcom.com staff and also Dugfinn & Mr. 3000 for their help as well. Here's to next year and maybe we'll snag the loke test for KOF XII depending on circumstances. Thanks a bunch!!!
Mr. 3000 and myself had lots of fun and greatly enjoyed the gaming room at Oni-con this year. I agree that it's the best one yet. Sure, there were a few snags with how some of the tournaments flowed, but overall, everything was very nice. The room set up and look was very nice. A huge thanks to Big Bruno and the rest of the Oni-cade gaming staff for letting us help out. It was great to see familiar faces (I'm talking to you Kusanagi and your sweet jacket!). Hope the tournament software Tio is helpful to ya'll guys too and can't wait to see what you got in store for next year. My only regret was that we couldn't cosplay KoF on Friday, but oh well, always next year. Thanks and good luck for '08! We'll be there!
Heh, thanks for the compliment. You and 3k's gear cosplay was very nice and i'm glad i got to see them up close.I guess next is the overture costumes.I'll hold ya to the KOF next year cuz we gotta do some scenes between Ash and Kyo.There will be some different tournaments next year and i'm sure a SSB Brawl will be there in 08.See ya around.
