It's a solid string doll-- no glueing-- only yarn and thread, and stitching keeping the body together and decorations on it. I wouldn't think there would be a machine to do this so it's all hand done.
It's 3 inches tall and can be either just a doll or keychain.
This one is just the prototype so the others will be more colorful..
I want to price a full body for $5, $2 for a decorated head, more expensive for a more elaborately decorated piece that I'm hesitant to give up.
And I'd have three different body types-- the girl, basic boy, and jolly fatty
my friend told me she actually saw a table this year at a-kon that sold string doll keychains (maybe the same one I have)-- lemme confess I have a storebought one from a brand called ethnic voodoo-- I got the idea from that and other string crafts I'd seen before and looked at it and played trial and error to figureout how they wove it.
On the website (there's a chinese, japanese, and u.s. branch) they priced it around 10$ and up to 20$ on new release...
I wouldn't think there's copyright violation here because I'm not making counterfeit of their designs (it's legal in asia though haha), even the shape of the bodies are different from mine. I've felt guilty, but also justified myself by figuring every clothing company takes ideas from each other, alter it a little, and set competative prices. Toys, etc.
I'm new to this, I'm chicken-- I just don't want to get in trouble or even frowned at. So if you have something to show me I cannot do this please tell me before I make a lot.
I spent good time on it so far, making sure the strings are secure and solid, the weaved details were even... I'm unnecessarily meticulous, I wouldn't want to sell a faulty item, and if something fall off I'd gladly fix it if it's within my ability.
But other than that I'm targeting people who like cutesy stuff... cause I know people with me even with a rough shell has soft spot for little knickknacks.
Finally maybe I can try artist alley again this year with friend...
The boards have been pretty slow lately so I might not get a bunch of feedback... oh well...
Reaally sorry they're big pictures.
