I can only hope it wasn’t a con goer, but the probability is pretty high that it was. I do not know if this happened on any other floors, but on the 19th floor some one had marked the walls and wrote something on of the elevator doors. It is one thing to be loud, but to deface hotel property is another matter all together. Stunts like that are going to put us in a bad light and make it harder for Oni-Con to either get a block of rooms set aside for us or get us good pricing.
If the vandalism was the result of a beef someone had with the hotel staff or management, then that person went about it all wrong. Its called getting the names of the staff that gave you trouble and writing a letter (giving details) to their superiors. If it was done because someone drank too much, then quit drinking you apparently can’t handle it.
If the person who did this or someone knows the person who did it pass this along, “GROW UP.”
I could smell the acetone on my way down from the elevator when they were cleaning it up. We'll see what the repercussions will be because I know they did a great job of wrecking other parts of the hotel. GRB & Hilton is a great combo for Oni, I hope they aren't kickbanned.
That's what happens when rules for minors being accompanied by adults aren't enforced...
every con I know of states that rule, but none make ANY attempt to enforce it..
On our floor (The eleventh floor), someone had written big scribbles in permenant marker all over the elevator signs. It had to have been done on Sunday morning because I went up to my room twice on Sunday and when I first left my room it wasn't there. But when I came back, there they were.
To whoever did this (Which I doubt they'll ever read this), this kind of act does not make you "badass" or "cool". You should have been mature and did the right thing by not doing such a dumb thing.
There was marker writing on many of the floors but to top off everything, someone literally Sh*t on the furniture and rubbed it on the walls and everything on the 13th floor lounge area. I don't know what idiots did all of this vandalism but it certainly puts a bad light on anime convention attendees. I heard there was a lot of vandalism and random destruction at this last A-kon as well. Its just plain sickening that people feel the need to do this crap.
I agree i love the combination of the hilton and the GRB but stuff like this can get the con kicked out. I dont know what makes this individuals think that doing this will prove something. They should have thought about how this can effect the con and everyone. I know that someone thruw up in one of the lobby's of the 13th floor but the con goers near the lobby which was close to my room got together to clean up the mess and take care of all the drunk people that where causeing problems. I even volenteered my room to have a drunk guy calm down in my room to keep him from getting in trouble.
Is there something we can do to help out the con in statying at the hilton?
I was on your floor but I didnt see anything on the elevator but SOMEONE or group of people were being extremely loud early Sunday morning.I swear I was about to kick some teeny bopper...It's 2 o clock for crying out loud people, keep it down.I'm glad security finally caught them.*is 17*
I HEARD THEM TOO.
I went to bed at 10:30 on Saturday night and woke up about a few hours later to people being very loud. At first I thought it was one of my roomates, but they were all in the room and in bed. People need to know that if you are going to go back to your room/wander the hotel floors in the early hours of the morning you should keep quiet. Just because you're awake doesn't mean that everyone else needs to be.
I spotted the markings that were around the "up/down" elevator buttons at about 9:15ish in the morning on Sunday.
That's what happens when parents don't watch their children, or when adults don't consider the consequences. The hotel requires an adult to check in.
I'm sure I've only heard a few of the incidents that occurred this past weekend. Everyone was so well behaved last year. I don't know how the hotel will take this, but I know they've had crowds that were more rowdy than us.
I really wish people wouldn't do these kind of things, because they give the rest of the rule-abiding con goers a bad name, and as said before, it makes the hotel less receptive to future conventions. My personal experience with the hotel staff was wonderful; from what I saw they were kind and respectful.
But one thing that bothered me were the people making so much noise at obcene hours. You usually don't get many opportunities to sleep at cons, so it would be nice if someone wasn't screaming outside your door when you do get a chance to lie down for a bit.
There were a couple of unaccompanied minors I saw, but Oni-con's rules stated that only minors under the age of twelve were required to have an adult present with them, and minors aged 13-17 were to just have an adult in the hotel area.
I've been going to cons for 30 years now, and every single Oni-con except this one. That is exactly the problem I am talking about: the 13 - 17 year old kids with no adults on the scene whatsoever. Many kids get checked in by their parents, or just room with someone who is over 18 (often a fellow student or even a newly met stranger) , and then are left unchaperoned throughout the entire con. That is one of the reasons our family declined to attend this year. The problem just keeps compounding as more and more kids tell others of the "good times" that they had at the con without parental supervision. The vandalism and underage drinking and drug use is really getting out of control. If more cons don't address this issue instead of simply saying "once they are in the hotel and not in the con it's not our problem" (even though when they ARE in con space, there is no parent nor guardian around), there won't be a hotel or convention center willing to host an anime con. More cons need to REQUIRE a parent to attend the con as well - Ochibi-con made this easier by giving free passes to parents of con goers. Those 13 to 17 should receive a badge just for that age that will not allow them to enter con space without a badged parent or guardian bringing them to the entrance.. if the parent decides not to stick around on premises, little Johnny or Judy can't re-enter the con space once they leave without the parent present again to check them in.
The day is coming closer when great tragedy will inevitably hit the con scene, and the unlucky con where this happens will most likely face a huge lawsuit, if not criminal charges as well, for gross negligence. I just hope our family is no where near when this happens.
