Oni-Con 2007 Masquerade Ball

Oni-Con 2007 Masquerade Ball

Once again, Oni-Con warmly invites you to an enchanting evening of song, dance, and mystery at the Oni-Con 2007 Masquerade Ball. This year, our focus is wholly on the enjoyment of your evening.

So what is Oni-Con's Masquerade Ball all about? The masquerade ball is an elegant dance event which participants attend in formal cosplay, usually wearing a mask. This includes anything to formal styled attire from existing character design, or your own original creations! The ball will have a variety of music, themes, and activities including an ongoing costume contest. While elegant, this will be an exciting evening filled with energy and intrigue.

One hour prior to the Masquerade Ball, a craft meet up will be held with supplies offered in one of the panel rooms so that you can decorate your mask with others, get ideas, and just all together have fun!

Oni-Con is proud to put on this unique event once again. We would like to answer any and all frequently asked questions to give you a better understanding of what sort of fun you'll be in for so you don't miss out on anything.

Q: What do you do at the Masquerade Ball?
A: Have fun! This is just a special sort of dancing event. There will be a variety of music to keep you entertained throughout the evening.

Q: Is a mask/formal attire required?
A: The general theme of the evening is that of a formal masquerade ball, but it is perfectly acceptable to attend in any sort of attire.

Q: Will I be able to bring my large prop/weapon into the Masquerade Ball?
A: It is discouraged to bring any sort of item that you may accidentally clunk your fellow dancer in the head with. Anything of a size you can be reasonably responsible with is permitted.

Q: What about that competition you mentioned?
A: The Oni-Con 2007 Masquerade Ball will be handing out a series of awards towards the close of the evenings festivities. This gives everyone enough time to enter and enjoy their evening, and also gives our team of judges a good chance to look at your costume. We'll be handing out identification markers with numbers when you enter (a ribbon or pin, something non invasive to your beautiful work) that distinguishes you as someone in the running.

Q: I'm running late, can I still make it into the competition?
A: Of course! We hope you make it in as soon as possible so you can enjoy as much time at the Ball as you can. As far as the contest goes, as long as you visit the registration table within a reasonable amount of time before the awards ceremony at the end of the evening, you should be in tip top shape.

Q: Hey, can you guys play. . .?
A: Sure actually! Any song you would like to have played can be sent as a suggestion in the form of an e-mail to with the subject "Masquerade Ball."

Q: Hey, I've got an idea . . .!
A: Sounds great, we'd like this to be your evening first and foremost. Send any feedback, even a question you don't feel was answered by this section, to with the subject "Masquerade Ball"

Friday evening, exact scheduling is still being worked on, but expect somewhere in the later evening. (I.E. not directly at sunset.)

So then there's no exact dress code at all? You'd be allowed in with just about anything on, or is something decent at least expected (dress/slacks)?

The Rave is on Saturday Night sometime after the Cosplay Contest.

The Masquerade Ball is on Friday night. ^.^ Sorry for any confusion.

As well...formal attire isn't required, but Masquerade-esque costumes are encouraged as that is the spirit of the event. But we will not be turning away people at the door due to clothing (less it violates any other con clothing rules).

That's good. I was just wondering, because my boyfriend doesn't cosplay at all, so if we were to attend this, he'd do nothing masquerade-esque, so I was just checking on that, because I know at other conventions, sometimes, at least formal attire (as specified by the con) is required for their dances, but I've never been to Oni-con. So, just wanted to check on things.

Such a n00b question...

But... could someone let's say for example dressed as a character from Naruto or Deathnote, or heck Trigun even enter the contest?

It's alright to wear

It's alright to wear costumes of anime or game characters, but unless they have been designed to fit a masquearde ball theme, they will not be considered for judging.

It is perfectly alright to

It is perfectly alright to wear normal clothes to the masquerade ball, but we just are really asking everyone to please not treat this like a normal con dance or a rave. If you'd like to wear normal clothes, that's fine, but we encourage everyone to dress up and enjoy themselves.
