Final tally shows almost 400 sign ups, and an uncountable number of viewers probably ranging about the same number if not more. This was certainly a good year for the Oni-Con Battlegrounds!
Have a good time? Have a bad time? Please discuss your thoughts on our event this year so we can continue to work on improving it for your enjoyment.
I had an amazing time at Battlegrounds. I only regret that I couldn't stick around for the Tournament. Or stick around to get my rank up. I'm only a level 2 Warrior. By the way, will I still be able to retain my level next year?
Glad to see you there, and certainly! Now that we have a digital record system we will be able to keep track of everyone's rank and names so that we can ensure that returning players find their information again and continue to progress accordingly. Remember though, Friday and early Saturday are the best days to get ranks so showing up early can really help ensure that you are not lost in the crowds. I love playing with everyone who shows up, but an unfortunate side effect of there being 'so' many people there, is that we cannot show them all the attention we'd prefer to. But we try, and will keep on trying to devise new ways for everyone to have an enjoyable time.
Battlegrounds was just amazing!!! i loved the games we played and the joy you get from doing good, though, it did take me a pretty long while to get to that point. I never would have thought that beating people up would be so much fun, or addicting...
next year, will we have to pick up where we left off on rank competitions, or will it be possible to start over in a new class?
i also second the "battle tactics 101" class/panel thing, where you just went over basic blocking and attacking maneuvers for the different weapons, not terribly in depth or revealling your secret moves or anything, but just so people can have a better understanding of what would be more effective ways to battle.
that was totally awesome thanks for the chance to show my skill against other skilled people i'll be back next year }:) next year i will be there all 3 days so me and kinshin and ichigo can have our rematch
haha, w/ this being my first convention "ever"
i was taken by total surprise by the battle grounds xD
i am really glad that i was able to partake in the activities
especially since it was SO awesome! xDD (administration did a superb job of maintaining and organizing everything... o.o'
so much more pro than most martial art tournaments =.='' )
oh and i earnestly hope to meet up w/ everyone that participated this year and hopefully new people as well =DD
you guys treat me kindly next year!! xDD
though i, myself, wasn't so forgiving this year admittedly >.<''
haha~
ooh btw~~ haha xD
a rematch would be awesome! =D
though....hopefully i'll be able to control myself a bit better next year >.<
(let's start another circle while we're at it =DD)
A battle tactics 101 doesn't sound like a bad idea at all. It would have to be early in the day though so we don't have too many people sitting around waiting- but yeah, great idea!
I'm glad you had fun, I watched you grow from a timid level one in the early matches to a determined force on the field in the later melee's and I was very proud of you. Well done! I sincerely hope to see you back next year so we can continue your progress into a veteran combatant. You are already well on your way! And yes, you will retain your levels year to year.
Fantastic. If I remember who you are correctly, you Kenshin and Ichigo were very popular with the crowds and other fighters alike and it will be good to see you back again next year, especially all three days. All ranks acquired carry over as well so whatever progress you made this year can be used the next. See you at Oni-Con Battlegrounds 2008!
You did a great job and people really enjoyed watching you fight. I did too, even though you stressed me out a lot with how hard you were swinging- you have to be careful! Part of the skill of martial arts both in grace and form is learning absolute control of your weapon. As skilled as you are, I've no doubt that come next year this should not be a problem. If it is, I will bop you about the head myself! =P
It was a blast even then to watch you and the others fight- it's one of the reasons we do this event out of our own pockets, because seeing everyone having fun, and exploring what they are capable of on the field, is reward enough. Thanks again!
Personally, I found your staff lacking public relation skills nessacary to promote your game as all of the staffers were quite rude, not to mention the profanities they used to tell us to do something. I also found your weapons to be quite unsafe, so much so that I didnt participate for fear of braking someone. The tips of your weapons are big enough to fit into an eye socket. The padding is insufficent enough that if I were to hit someone in the head, they would most likely drop and have a concussion. And your pommels have no padding what so ever.
With that being said, count yourselves lucky you had no real injuries.
Re-evaluate the safety of your game and the risk of bodily injuries.
Also, it dosnt help to promote your game when the Marshalls take ALL POLEARMS against total newbs with nothing but short weapons, and then even sluff the kill shots they do throw on you.
All in all, a completely negative exprience from someone who currently plays other combat Sports like Amtgard, HACS, and Belegarth.
Tips for next time:
Show honor when fighting. Dont pull the all polearms vs the world game, and call your shots correctly. Makes you look even worse just because you wont call a shot a newb threw on you because you think your better than that.
Be nice to those you would like to see play your game.
Safety first always. Find safer ways to construct your weapons, or consider safety gear, because I
could easily break someones rib with the flick of a wrist with your weapons.

They scalped the one-legged Kakashi! Seriously, you guys rocked with this. Please for the sake of all stressed out people looking to stab someone with a padded stick, do it next year!
