Event Staff aka Drew's Minions
The GRBCC had concerns about safety last year, so our security is being handled differently. Drew will be heading up the event staff this year, so if you want to be one of Drew's Minions, then please volunteer for event staff instead of security. If you want to be on the security staff, then sign up for security instead and see the Security thread. If you have any questions about either, please contact Drew or Sven.
Hey everyone, well its funny I didn't actually know till oh a week ago that I was head of this, silly e-mail and stuff *shakeshead*.. Hahahaha but anyway if you want to be on Events find me at the con or send me an e-mail at , though I am leaving tomorrow early to get to con by 2. But I will check before i leave tomorrow. Anyway if you wan tto join I should be all around and prob mainly in Con Ops or somewhere of the like. Let me know and I will see if I can hook you up.
Anyway this is a new thing this year and so we will all be learning together so hope yall will bare with me and sorry about such a late reply. didn't think about checking till today.

i'd really like to work with the staff during the summer as a summer job, but i'm not of age...i turn 15 in june...i don't want to be just a volunteer during the con...is it possible? i'd love to help out with the con during the summer, but i might not be able to do it all year...

You do realize that Oni-con, and for the most part, other conventions in the US, isn't a full-time job for most of the staff? They hold other "real-life" jobs and organize oni-con in their free time. You should keep in mind that its not like a job in an office or store where you work certain hours everyday. While the staff might contact you if they need help with anything (since you have obviously made it known you want to offer your services), it probably wouldn't be a consistent "job" but more like a one afternoon thing. Much of the physical work that others are needed for happens directly before the con and is usually taken care of by the volunteers, so just keep in mind that there might just not be anything for you to help with considering your lack of experience in the behind the scenes work of cons (though i commend your willingness to help!)
Considering that you haven't been to a con before, maybe you should consider trying to attend a con between now and Oni such as A-kon, Anime Fest, or San Japan, or even just the Delta H Con in Houston, so you can have a better idea of how a con works before you volunteer at Oni. Con experience isn't necessary for the most part, but having just volunteered my first con at Anime Matsuri, my previous con experience helped me to be better able to help the attendees in finding stuff, dealing with situations that came up, etc.
Also, since you want a job but are not of age, you might want to look at Kroger or Chick-fil-a or some restuarants (you'd be hired as a busboy) as they usually hire people who are 15.
no, i didn't mean it like a job job, i just meant that if there's some random day they start setting up, i just wanna help out with organization and stuff just a bit.
well, like someone else said on another thread...can't remember who....they don't get to set up until the thursday before the con because there are other conventions going on as well the previous weeks, so the set up is usually that day, which i guess would be the 20th (if i remember my dates right)
